GETlivecap for easy captioning

Producing live video with captions or subtitles is challenging in many ways. One problem is getting the text from the captioners into the production. This is sometimes further complicated if network firewalls are in the way. GETlivecap is a proposed standard for an open, simple, and effective method with which a live stream production can GET real-time captions from a captions server via HTTP requests.

WestreamU’s founder Richard Gatarski has now released GETlivecap on Github. During the fall of 2019 WestreamU have used this approach during numerous real productions for selected government agencies. In these cases the real-time text interpretation was provided by Svensk Skrivtolkning AB, the first captions provider to implement GETlivecap.
